Unlike most other viruses in its family, Hantaviruses are not spread by insects, but by rodents like the deer mouse.

Discovered in 1978 (Hantaan), 1993 (Sin Nombre) by Ho-Wang Lee (South Korea)

Inhaling dust contaminated with rodent urine/feces

Supportive care, mechanical ventilation

Rodent control, avoiding dusty rodent-infested areas

The most famous Hantavirus in the US is named 'Sin Nombre', which means 'Without a Name' in Spanish!
