Adenovirus

Adenoviruses are common viruses that cause flu-like symptoms. They are famous in biotechnology as 'viral vectors' for delivering genes in vaccines (like the AstraZeneca COVID vaccine).

Discovered in 1953 by Wallace P. Rowe and colleagues

Respiratory droplets, fecal-oral route, contaminated surfaces

No specific antiviral — supportive care, hydration, rest

Hand washing, disinfection of surfaces, vaccine (for military only)

Adenoviruses have long fibers sticking out from their corners that look like antennas, which they use to 'dock' onto host cells!
